We believe the fresh air and sunshine is vital they just need to be dressed for it! After play time, the children come back to line to end their morning as a large group. After line time, children have “work time,” engaging in activities on their own or in small groups.Īfter work time, the children have playtime outside – in all kinds of weather. This also is a time for sharing news or watching presentations of new materials. Children develop and refine a sense of order by engaging in activities ranging from sorting to phonetic spelling to simple mathematical operations.The day begins with line time, an opportunity for children to sing together or do large muscle movement exercises. On Monday, we have art, on Tuesday, we have our community meeting, and Wednesday and Thursday we have cultural time, Thursday is also music, and on Friday afternoon we have P.E.Īs soon as our “specialist time” is over we do our weekly jobs, which include cleaning the tables and chairs, sharpening the pencils, feeding the classroom pets, etc. The teacher will tell me what the class is doing next. When I come back inside I come to circle. I work, and work, and work until 12 ‘o clock and then I clean up for lunch, go to the lunch room, eat, and then go to recess. For the 6th graders, daily editing comes next and then I can start on work. First, I correct anything that has a sticky-note and bring it to a teacher. ![]() (For example: cleaning the tables after lunch, delivering milk, etc.) After circle, work time will start.Īt work time, I do any work in the “regular” subjects that I need to do. At this time I can share anything in the news that I think is interesting. When journal is over the teacher will ring the bell and I come to circle. Some days I go to reading buddies with the Lower Elementary class, on Thursdays there is a spelling test and all the other days I’ll do something in the classroom, like puzzles or free-writing in your journal spiral. “The Board” will have any instructions that I need before I start journal.
